10 Things To Do Now That You Are Engaged
You are engaged and getting married! Your longtime partner/ best friend proposed and you couldn’t be happier! We know the feeling because we’ve been through it ourselves. It’s an exciting time for both you and your fiancé.
So what do you do next?
This is going to be one of the best days of your life, however, it can be equally overwhelming. In this article, we’ll share a few things to keep in mind once you have gotten engaged.
First, you really need to enjoy the moment with your partner before jumping right into what needs to be done and when. As much as possible, remember that there are some things that need to be done as soon as possible and other things can be done much later.
We’ve drafted out a few things that should come top of the list.
1. Call your Family and tell them you are engaged!
Your family has always been there for you ever since you were young and most likely have been waiting to hear the news for the longest.
Place a quick phone call to them sharing the best news ever. It’ll be better than having them find out from a third party. The excitement after an engagement can get real so this should be one of the first things to get out of the way.
2. Post a Video or Photo on Social Media
This is the social media age, and if you are all about sharing on the internet, you are allowed to do so! We run a photography/ videography business and so we’d rather you have us document this special day but depending on how the proposal was planned, it’ll be nice for you to capture the moment with your phone as much as you can – selfie style!
Alright, seriously, you need to have bomb looking photos and videos that you can look forward to relieving the special moments, so make sure you later schedule a shoot for professional photos. We’ve booked engagement sessions/ pictures these in the past.

3. Discuss a Date
If you plan to get married within a year or two, then it’s advisable to start discussing wedding dates soon after the engagement. Wedding dates, venues, and vendors get booked far in advance and you certainly don’t want to get frustrated along this incredible journey.
4. Determine the Size of Your Wedding
Do you want a large wedding, small size or very intimate wedding? Sometimes these numbers change. Depending on what size of wedding you want, you can then come around with a budget and vice versa.
You and your spouse should be on the same page about this including your family, especially if they’ll be footing a part of the wedding bill. Determining the size of the wedding will affect every other plan for your wedding celebrations so take your time but don’t take too long. Also, you can have a rough estimate for starters.
5. Determine Your Budget
If you want to have a great wedding, then discussing money matters is really important and no better way that defining a budget to stick to!
We’ll share more on wedding budgeting in a couple of days, visit our blog often. Before moving on with planning the wedding, this is an important conversation to have. You wouldn’t want to spend so much money on a wedding forgetting your new life as a married couple afterward.
6. Check out/ Research Wedding Venues
You can’t book a date until the venue is certain so this should be next on your to-do list. At this point, you’ll be sure of the number of guests you are expecting and you can do research on available wedding venues.
Smaller weddings can be done in restaurants as this is now common and much more affordable. Otherwise, you can opt for halls and meeting rooms (for a medium sized wedding). Ensure that the date is available at your choice of venue and book it as soon as you can.
7. Discuss with Wedding Vendors (Photographer/ Videographer, Event Planner, MC, DJ, Caterer/ Cook, Decorator, etc.)
Once the venue has been decided, next thing is to lock down a vendor early enough. Food, drinks, photography, videography, and music is pretty much very important so you want to start out with those.

8. Select who will be in your Bridal Party
Next on your to-do list is choosing who will be a part of your bridesmaids or groomsmen and how many too. This will most likely depend on the size of your wedding.
We’ve shot at weddings where the couple just have a maid of honor and best man only! The beautiful things about weddings are that it’s your day and you have the right to decide what you want along with your spouse.
9. Plan your Engagement Party
This is something that many couples leave for closer to the wedding and some opt not to. However, if you’re the type that loves to celebrate then why not?
You could make it as simple as having drinks at your favorite bar or going all out to have an event planner take over the planning. Do what works best for you and your spouse.
10. Relax
Yes, we just had to add this to the list! Remember, at the end of the day it’s the marriage that’s all worth it. Don’t stress yourself out. Relax and believe that your vendors will do their part to make your wedding day truly special.
