4 Tips To Prepare You For Your Next Toronto Portrait Session

April 13, 2018 By 0 Comments

At Allen Oba Studios, we take our Toronto portrait sessions very seriously. We have been fortunate to work with a number of clients and have since realized some tricks to a successful photo session.

In this post, we’ll be sharing 5 easy tips that will guarantee that you don’t fret before, during or after your next Toronto portrait photo session.

You may be wondering why this article is so specific to Toronto. That’s because our studio is based here in Toronto, we are proud Torontonians and Toronto is a great location for portrait photo sessions.

With a countless number of coffee shops, restaurants, beautiful/ graffiti walls, and don’t forget the beautiful downtown scenery, you are guaranteed to have beautiful portrait photos to choose from after a shoot with our team! Let’s not get into so many details about the scenery, weather and the beauty that Toronto holds.

Let’s get into how to ensure that you are well prepared for your next portrait session, shall we?

1. Speak with your Photographer

At Allen Oba Studios, we ensure to have that important phone call with you prior to your Toronto portrait session. This is a time to discuss the location, your outfit, makeup looks, confirm the date or any ideas that you have in mind.

We want to ensure that our vision for any portrait shoot actually aligns with what you have in mind. We believe that two heads are better than one and make it a top priority to match your goals while providing you with bespoke looking portrait photographs.

If we can meet with you prior to a portrait session, we will do just that! However, we understand that our clients are busy most times and respect that, therefore a quick phone call also does the trick!

2. Get things ready and take some extras

If you’ll be applying makeup, it will be a good idea to take it along with you for extra touch up where necessary. If you’ll need a haircut, get one at least one week before the shoot so that you know how well it fits.

Iron out your clothes and get your luggage ready well ahead of time to avoid leaving something important behind. Remember combs, lip gloss, hairspray, moisturizer, hair clips or accessories, etc. Wear good undergarments so that you feel very comfortable. Remember your manicure and pedicure if necessary.

3.  Practice Posing

As much as we like our clients to be themselves and feel relaxed during a portrait session, we also recognize that some of our clients already have ideas that they want.

We encourage you to try out some posing techniques and try to pull faces in front of a mirror ahead of time to see what works best for you.

All the same, during every photo shoot, our team of photographers will always be available to help pose and relax you. We always encourage our clients to feel relaxed and go with the flow.

Many times, we have our clients just be themselves and we capture those moments, which eventually turn out to be loved by all of our clients! This makes us so happy.

4. Arrive Early

Many of our clients are always on time and we love them for this and appreciate them making the effort. We understand that life happens and you might be delayed, the reason we encourage you to be on time is that it helps you feel more relaxed.

When you are early for your Toronto portrait session, you are able to visualize the location, chat with your photographer on how the day will go, have ample time to change outfits and lots more.

5. Trust your Photographer

We are here to serve you and want you to trust that we want to make you happy. After a photo shoot, feel free to share what you want and how you felt during the portrait session.

We make minimal alterations to our photos. We believe that some imperfections or distinguishing marks you may have, makes you unique (eg. moles, scars, freckles, etc.). This shouldn’t be confused with blemishes or acne. However, please feel free to discuss this with us and we’ll try our best to accommodate your request.

We encourage you to take a look at our previous photo gallery. Appreciate our art. We look forward to having you book a Toronto portrait session with us. Also, stay tuned for more blog posts that will be shared here.
